Sue Scherer Endorsed by AFL-CIO

Press Release

DECATUR, Ill. – State Rep. Sue Scherer (D-Decatur) recently earned the endorsement of the Illinois AFL-CIO, the state’s largest labor organization, in her bid for election this November.

“I am truly grateful and honored to be endorsed the AFL-CIO, which advocates on behalf of thousands of working families in Central Illinois every day,” said Scherer, “The working men and women of our state deserve to earn a fair wage with fair benefits in safe working conditions.  The AFL-CIO is a partner in my efforts to make sure middle-class Illinoisans are valued, respected and appropriately paid.”

The Illinois AFL-CIO represents more than 1.5 million people from union households, including more than 20,000 in Scherer’s 96th House District. The state federation is the umbrella organization for nearly 1,500 affiliated labor organizations, providing a unifying voice for economic and social justice for all working families across Illinois.

“One of my primary concerns when it comes to job creation is the need to stop the outsourcing of American jobs,” Scherer added.  “When corporations take taxpayer-funded incentives and then turn their back on Illinois workers by shipping jobs overseas, those corporations ought to be held accountable.  We should not be in the business of bankrolling jobs in Mexico and China.”
